The daughter of the late Payne Stewart wrote a letter to her father and released it on the 20th anniversary of his death.
    'Miss you every day'

    I can't believe it has been 20 years. :-(

Most of the golfers who pass by my house seem sartorially challenged.

Payne is was one of the most gifted professional golfers of his generation. He won 18 professional tournaments, 3 of them majors; the 1989 PGA Championship, the 1991 US Open & the 1999 US Open. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001. Tiger woods considered him a mentor, especially WRT on how to live with the stresses and demands of being a highly visible touring professional. Payne was also famous for wearing plus 4s (aka knickers) in bright colors, plaids, berets & shoes.

He died with 5 others on Oct 25th, 1999 when a charter jet they were in lost pressure at high altitude. The incident was especially heartbreaking for the families of the passengers because the plane was on auto-pilot and continued to fly on for several hours after it is believed the cabin lost pressure. IIRC, The Air Force sent a chase plane up to after contact was lost and the plane failed to make a scheduled course change. The plane eventually crashed in a South Dakota pasture.

I remember the incident clearly. There was a NTSB proposal to have one pilot always on oxygen don't know if it was implemented.

Ah, I also remember that airplane tragedy. But I've never heard of this golfer. Of course I don't know many golfers, except for the high-profile names always in the news.

    I certainly recall the "knickers".
