Anybody catch this one? I was 14 when the first Karate Kid came out and already an aspiring Karate master! My dad made me take Judo instead, but I still loved the movies. I was slightly skeptical when this came out, but I was wrong. I caught the first episode on Youtube and subscribed to Red for a trial. Then I proceeded to watch all 10. I thought these were a lot of fun. Pure popcorn 80s nostalgia and I loved it. There will be more seasons of this for sure.

Part of me really wants to watch it but part of me is irritated by the fracturing of streaming services now. I already have cable, internet, cell bill, prime, netflix. I added it up the other day I'm paying like $550 a month. I could do a trial but if I really like the show then I'll end up subscribing. And there's stuff on Hulu I would like to watch and... and... and it never ends.

I feel very similar. I caught the first two for free and they got me. I did fail to mention that I wont be keeping youtube red. Cancellation is already on my calendar.

That looks really cool. No way I am subscribing to another service, I must have a 3 year backlog on my existing ones.

I commented in the thread about Daniel being the real bully and completely agree with Jeff.

    Whoa.
I am quite the outlier, I have no subscriptions.
Like many of you, I have enough, Music, film etc.,
on my shelves or Hard Disc...to entertain myself for years & years.

we all have the same 24/7 available, we all choose to spend it in our own way.

I dunno. I look at it like I paid $10 for a five hour movie. I just have to remember to cancel.

Let's check and see what Cobra Kai has:

    Bitchin' Firebird? Check.
    Karate fight scenes? Check.
    Good Karate Lore? Check
    80s flashbacks? Check.
The Crane Kick? Check. More than once? Check.
A BRAND NEW KICK? Yup. Check.
    A predictable ending? Not really.

    First two are free:

About half way through this series and loving every second of it! Wow! What a pleasant surprise. This is how you do a sequel 30 years later. So many things to like about this and surprisingly deeper than expected from the initial previews. I'll finish it up this weekend. If I didn't have to go to bed the other night I'd be done.

Ok. My “WOW!” review of the summer. That series had no right being as good as it was. Here’s some cliches. It hit every right note and stuck the landing! Bring on Season 2!!

This series also made me realize something I never did when I was younger. It's almost as embarrassing as 5 year old me thinking light saber was light saver (resulting in my thinking that's what it was until I was a teenager). The logo on the mats at the tournament is a stylized fist. And it took the tournament organizers explicitly discussing it to do it, even at 40

I didn't realize this until about 2 years ago when watching it with my daughter for the first time!

My sister just confided to our entire family that she just realized why Kanga and Roo are named that. She's 41.

Interesting follow-up to the OG movie. After suffering at the hands of Daniel his senior year, dealing with his constant bullying, sabotaging his attempts to get back together with his ex, etc. Johnny is now a deadbeat dad with no respect, no job, and basically turned into an asshole due to his run ins with Daniel and an abusive Sensei.

Finished the entire series. Can't wait for S2. If you are a big fan of original KK movies, I recommend doing a free trial of YouTube Red or YouTube TV for this show alone. I'm actually about 99.9% of the way to cutting cable and moving to YouTube TV. I'm going to start a separate thread.
