After consideration over the last few days, I am closing the War Zone. No political threads will be allowed on the lounj. That doesn't mean "post them in the private forum and hope they don't get contentious." It means NO political threads will be allowed any longer.

During this same time period I've seriously considered shutting down the forum entirely. There isn't much diversity of discussion. A lot of traffic comes from a few running threads. If the political discussions being banned kills the forum, so be it.

Ok. Things change. Time marches on.
Thanks. Thank you for all that you’ve done over the years.

Good decision. Things were getting a bit heated no doubt.

Sounds like precisely why I never joined it. I prefer to like the people on the forum.

It's not like anyone changed anybody else's mind in the war zone.

Just wondering did I miss something, it seemed pretty tame lately?

Never the lessnot a problem with it disappearing.

Not a problem. If I feel the need to vent politically there are a lot of there sites I can do it on.

I never joined the War Zone for precisely that reason. I do hope the forum survives because I enjoy checking in periodically to see what’s happening.

So CJ, now that the War Zone has been turned off for a while, have you noticed any significant forum usage changes?

Maybe the group of active members could be served with another format and less effort from CJ. Something like a private facebook group that isn't facebook? Does something like that exist?

I think I am basically saying if you think it is time to kill the forum, than kill the forum, I think everyone would understand. If it is possible to still keep in touch with the group I would be interested in doing that.

I think as long as people refrain from using the Lounj to vent their political frustrations, especially at each other, we are fine here. I would not like to see it go away.

Number of posts is naturally down. The War Zone was pretty much the second most active subforum (possibly surprising to those of you who didn't have access). Given that the fire went out with shutting down the war zone I don't have any immediate plans to shutter the site. testafea went away. Its 2018... if you need help finding that kind of content, PM me.

War zone or not I stop by at least twice day. I think the current political climate made the war zone the hot zone. The zone allowed us to share current events and issues that others might have missed. I had no problems per se with the war zone as long as the firing was on issues and not at person specially with name calling. Having said that I was must admit my guilt at firing sarcasm at one member who was eventually banned.
