This may be more information than you need or care about but for the sake of transparency, here you go.

The site that hosts the lounj is fantastic. They always provide great service and prices have remained flat for several years. This week they announced that CPanel, the back end package that lets site owners manage their domain, is significantly increasing prices and they will have no choice but to pass this cost along (the price increase is over 25% of what I'm currently paying so I don't blame them for having no choice but to pass through that price increase.

However, there is an alternative package called Direct Admin. This software package does not carry the same licensing woes that CPanel does. My hosting company has offered to migrate the site to a server running the Direct Admin package at no charge. At the same time I'm moving to a lower level server package and moving to annual billing. As a result, I will see a 20% decrease in hosting costs as opposed to a 25% increase.

I will have no direct control over the migration time but when it happens, the IP of the site will change and will take a while for DNS to update. In the past when IP changes occurred, some people had no access for an entire day, depending on how frequently your ISP refreshes DNS.

This is good news overall and a minor inconvenience. I appreciate your understanding.

No inconvenience at all speaking for myself that is. I don't think anyone will mind a few extra seconds wait if the lower level server is slower.

You could give sproutbox a try. $10 hosting.

This is the new site. If you're here, you're good to post.

Side note, I HATE DNS. My domain name registrar and hosting company are different companies and there's always some hidden area that is not intuitive where I have to update an IP. The site probably could have been up all day yesterday but there was a hidden IP address I missed!

DNS is the worst. Everytime you think you have it figured out, somehting bites you in the ass and it takes an extra day or two.

When I have to switch over things that need more uptime than a forum, we usually do a combination of multiple domain names (new.thelounj.com or something similar) and have the two sites running in parallel with redirects until DNS kicks in correctly. That can cause other problems, too, but usually gets people to the right place.

I contemplated that but, and I hate to break it you you guys, this site isn’t mission critical.

Took me a little while to see the site but hey it works!
You just have to remember that when you change hosts you need to change your pointing nameservers.
Look for ns1 and ns2 and make the necessary changes.

I just edited the bookmark I had (a few minutes ago) and signed back it and it works fine. Thanks for the efforts.

I was actually about to email you about the DNS thing. I'd never heard of it, googled the 'how to clear it' and found the instructions confusing, so had not yet done it, and am VERY glad you sent the email about being back up. Had to go through the whole login/reset password thing, but I'm here now. Still have to reset bookmark, but doing that shortly. One thing I've wondered about is whether or not emojis would work. They never did after the last big shift, and now they apparently do.

Phil, they worked before the last major shift a couple years ago, but not after. But now they work again, and I never changed any of my settings.

I kind of wonder if it wasn't a permissions issue because they worked for me this entire time. I never knew they weren't working :tearsofjoy:

I generally thought it was a caching issue from your end.
