    1. Last Tango in Sweden.
    2. The Hostile Hostel.
    3. The Manson Family Go Blonde.

Dear god I really hated this. I'd sit through the worst Melissa McCarthy film twice before I'd agree to this tripe again.

Did I mention I was bored?

I am a little slow on the uptake.
Are these films you’ve already seen?

That's too bad, Denton. This film was being promoted as a modern take on The Wicker Man. I guess not, huh?

    Oh, I see.

As I said a little slow.

Midsommar is a new movie. Apparently a not so good one.

Yeah, I read the plot line. Baffled and bemused that Denton woulda gone and sat thru it. Unless, he was “going along to get along”! If so, wise man. Win some lose some.

Just one man's opinion. 1-3 are some alternate titles I came up with on the spot.

Midsommar is generating a lot of buzz on the internet. Its possible you're not the target audience. It is by the same writer director as breakout hit "Hereditary". It currently has an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes (though and admittedly lower audience score may confirm some of Denton's issues).

I've seen multiple versions of the Wicker Man. Didn't care for them but was not annoyed by the others to this degree. I found the flick pretentious as hell. 2.5 hours of BS.

FWIW, we were aware of the RT ratings. That's part of what dragged us in. :fearscream:

The 1973 Wicker Man I really loved. Hadn't seen anything like it to be honest at the time I saw it. It was recommended to me on HTT when I was looking to expand my horizons from mainstream film and it probably holds an outsized place in my heart because of that. The Nicholas Cage one is an unmitigated disaster and painful to watch.

I really enjoyed "Hereditary"...it was probably my 'favorite' movie of 2018 though I'm not eager to ever re-watch it!
Midsommar appears to be very divisive with audiences (as was Hereditary) which is always interesting to me; another recent example of this type of reaction is the film "Mother!" by Darren Aronofsky...some called it pretentious nonsense, some thought it was incredible. I'll be checking Midsommar out, but in the comfort of my home theater. :)

Mother! is probably a fair comparison. I haven't watched it yet but I'm intrigued for the same reason you cited, precisely because it was divisive.

Also see "Suspiria" (remake) from 2018...supposedly mindblowing, haunting, etc...or a pile of dog shit. :D

Yeah, Suspiria got a "try-hard" reputation and a lot of netizens claimed that as such, it wasn't remotely scary. I imagine I wouldn't sleep for a month if I watched it, based on previews.

For your consideration... "Midsommar Director's Cut" currently showing at the local AMC. This version runs 2 hours 50 minutes. No doubt it will clear up all of those questions the original version left unanswered. :smirk:
