"Mortal Engines"

    Yes, I've looked at the many negative reviews as well as the articles estimating its losses at over $100 million. A friend's daughter had her birthday party fall apart due to illness, so we jumped in and took her to the movie. We saw "Mortal Engines" in an IMAX theater. Terrific special effects and visuals. Kick-ass sound and projection. Plot aimed at "young adults", not unlike "Star Wars" and "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets", for example. The result was less entertaining than the former and more entertaining than the latter, IMHO.

    This looked really intriguing but is bombing hard. I think its hard to adapt the "darker, more intelligent" YA content. See The Golden Compass series of books. Fluff works, more challenging content doesn't.
