Nerves are crazy with something like that. I'm NOT athletic but I threw perfect zips to the girls on my daughter's softball team during warm ups, but if I scooped up a foul ball while I was coaching a base and had to threw it back to the pitcher it could get pretty embarrassing, and that's not a nationally televised MLB game. These people that throw out first pitches generally practice. I imagine his practice throws were great.
I've been trying to find someone else to pitch on my daughters 8U team because I'm an "okay" pitcher but a much better base coach. I cannot find another coach or parent that can deal with the 5 pitches only and you can strike your own kid out mentality, they just freeze, throw behind the girls, roll them up there, over their heads, etc. It'd be comical if it wasn't so frustrating!!
They're fine in practice, but during a game ...
I pitched my girls 10UC team. It is hard. I had to practice as much as she did.
